Gaining Momentum In Life

Gaining Momentum In Life

When I started down the tracks of my new calling progress was slow. Beginning anything new can be discouraging because it’s so hard to gain momentum. But when we are on the path of our contribution progress will always come.

Isn’t it true that the hardest thing about starting something new is just getting started? Our patterns of thinking and acting can cause such inertia that we feel it almost can’t be overcome.

When I started down this track of writing I KNEW I needed to do it but I didn’t know how. I really did want to do it. But there was so much ingrained dogma in my mind of what was possible, what I was capable of, what skills I had that it was difficult to get started. I even had several false starts in different directions.

Although I was overjoyed to start the journey it wasn’t without difficulty trying to gain momentum. Once I finally was going in the right direction it felt like I was hauling an impossible load. The progress was labored and slow.

I fought and struggled to gain what seemed like even an inch of progress. But it was progress.

Eventually, I gained another inch and then another and each time it took a little less time and it was a little easier. I was gaining momentum.

Picking Up Speed

As I got farther, I got smarter. In being smarter I could jettison some of the mental cargo I was trying to carry along with me trying to make sure I got this venture right. With every new piece of weight, I unloosed I was getting lighter. I began to trim down and lose some of the enormous weight I was carrying.

Pretty soon I realized that I didn’t even have to spend hours researching the thoughts of others but God had a complete message WITHIN MYSELF to tap into and unlock. I had all I needed without reading another book.

At the same time I was getting lighter I was getting faster. I had gone an inch, then another, and then another and now I had a new type of inertia that was actually helping me make ground.

Inertia works against you and then it works for you. (tweet this)

When I first started this venture of my new calling it wouldn’t take much to completely stop my forward momentum. When inertia is holding you back it doesn’t take much more additional force to stop you in your tracks.

Momentum Shift

But as we gain momentum in some way in life something magical happens. Just by merely having some direction and gaining some progress we can do so faster and faster. At some point, like a freight train, it takes a whole lot to slow us down.

Bestselling author, Charles J. Givens, said:

“Success requires first expending ten units of effort to produce one unit of results. Your momentum will then produce ten units of results with each unit of effort.”

The start of something new can require enormous effort. But as you gain ground it works more and more in your favor.

Daniel Horgan shares these immortal words of success speaker, Jim Rohn:

“If you want to have more, you have to become more.
For things to change, you have to change.
For things to get better, you have to get better.
For things to improve, you have to improve.
If you grow, everything grows for you.”

It all begins with starting.

Your New Start

If you are undergoing a new direction in your life, as I experienced with my new calling, it will take some time. The nature of it—the universal law—is that the beginning will always be the most difficult part of the journey. If you began a new process just standing still or worse yet—you were pointed the wrong way on the tracks— it’s going to take some effort to get the train going.

But you can take heart. Just because it’s slow now doesn’t mean it always will be. Just because it’s difficult now and requiring a lot of your energy doesn’t mean it always will.

It’s another promise from the universe—if you can find your direction and just START then you will gain momentum.

Your applied intention will always be rewarded. (tweet this)

Yes, it will be a struggle. But with persistence you will begin to break that inertia and as you do you will gain more and more momentum. It might take a tremendous amount of energy to start but once you are going it will be nearly impossible to stop you.

Take Away

If you are in fact on the right path in life God will never let you fail. If He has called you to it I promise He will make you successful at it. All you have to do is begin and the great causal universe will reply. If you have begun, continue. You will find success sure enough.

A freight train labors hard to gain that first inch but once it’s moving it can hardly be stopped. (tweet this)

Hello, my name is Aaron Force. I’m a blogger based in Seattle, Washington. I’ve been spiritually-minded for most of my life. Unfortunately, I’ve been carnally-minded for at least as much. I felt a seed of greatness hidden somewhere deep down inside but was blinded from it. That is until I experienced an honest-to-goodness calling and moment of awakening. I would be lying if I told you I had it all figured out. But I’m here to tell my story and maybe, just maybe, help you become aware of an even more amazing universe than the one your rational mind already knows.
