Open Things— Minds

Open Things— Minds

Open things are the most beautiful—open flowers, open eyes, open hearts, open minds

In the previous three articles in this series, I examined the beauty of purpose, how God calls us to that purpose, and how to open our hearts to abundant love. In this article, I’d like to build on the idea of removing mental limits, such as fear or limiting beliefs, from our lives and how that can make each of us more beautiful humans.

Minds are miraculous organs. The complexity and capability of the human mind are staggering. It’s estimated that 100 billion neurons fill a single human brain and each neuron connects with 40,000 synapses (the junction between nerve cells by which impulses pass). It’s believed that our minds process between 50,000 to 80,000 thoughts per day.

With that much horsepower, it’s no wonder mankind has created so much. Our skyscrapers, modern medicine, transportation, art, entertainment—all began as thoughts. These were creative, empowering thoughts with so much energy that they could create the physical right out of the ephemeral.

This concept of creation is so fundamental to the purpose of man. Genesis 1:27 states that man was created in the image of God. To be crafted in the Creator’s image is to be creators ourselves. It’s in our very DNA. As such, our lives should be devoted to creation.

God gives us each a unique calling and the creativity to make it as impactful to others and glorifying to God as possible.

Before any of this creativity is possible, however, we have to remove any of the persistent strongholds called mental limits.

Things like fear, limiting beliefs, assumptions, even attitudes, if left unchecked will close a mind off to the creative energy, or what Dr. Wayne Dyer calls the intention, of the universe (see The Power of Intention – Learning To Co-Create Your World Your Way by Hay House Publishers).

Can you imagine what would have happened to mankind’s story if God had doubts? What about fears or limiting beliefs?

It’s absurd to think about but it does serve the point—the Creator of all things could and can do so because He has no limits. Everything is possible.

The Creator effortlessly brought forth the world in all of its beauty and complexity, the moon and sun and the stars, and life itself. From the atom to the distant galaxies His creation is manifest because all things are possible for Him.

Likewise, to an open mind, anything is achievable. An open mind has as few limits in the way as possible that would otherwise restrain growth.

Opening The Mind Beyond Mental Limits

Not every mind is so open and, only in the recent past, my mind was no exception. To me there were no solutions for me—all the answers to success were for other people. They had to be—they were successful and I was not.

My beliefs closed me off to all possibility. I believed I wasn’t capable, I believed I was a loser, I believed God had forgotten about me. That is about as closed of a mind as is possible.

It took a Damascus moment to break through and cause the scales to fall off my mind. With my calling, I realized I had been stuck in a mental Box that now no longer exists for me. My mind was opened in a miraculous way to the possibility inherent in life.

Possibility—that is such an empowering and life-giving word.

Because my mind is so much more open to things of the universe now I am finally able to break free. For what seems like the first time in my life I’m able to grow. And growth is inspiring and energizing. People are drawn to a person full of possibility and creativity. It’s attractive.

Have you ever known someone with a mind closed to possibility? They were probably grumpy, mean-spirited, negative, and most likely, hopeless. Their lives were ugly, even repulsive because they were disconnected from the universe.

People like that repel others because they aren’t growing—they are stagnant. What happens to water that never flows? It becomes poisonous. It putrefies. It becomes disgusting.

If anything, a person like that isn’t just stagnant, their lives are shrinking. Like a planet near a collapsing star, people can feel the energy being sucked out of them from light years away.

Instead of bringing forth creation, a person like that destroys. It may not be intentional but, as any judge will attest, ignorance is no excuse for violating the law.

Where there is no life, there is decay. Death is the natural byproduct when lives stop growing.

If there is any violation that God must find offensive it is that humanity rejects their divine heritage of creation.

Imagine bringing a child into this world. They have all of the resources needed to live a vibrant, growing life and yet…they never leave the comfort of their bed.

Lives that could be spent growing, bettering themselves with school and sports and friends, of contributing by volunteering and serving—all ignored. How would you feel? Angered? Frustrated? Embarrassed?

Facebook feeds across the world are filled with photos and messages posted by proud parents every day. When Susie gets an A, when Johnny scores his first goal, when so-and-so wins the science fair, parents can’t help but share with the rest of humanity. A smile of pure pride comes over their faces.

Growth. Trying. Creativity. Fulfilling the calling He has given us. These things are beautiful to our Father. They make Him proud.

My, You Have An Attractive Mind

A person who has a genuinely open mind is vibrant. They are kind, driven to excellence, aware. In short, they are alive in exactly the way God designed. The limits that lead to death have been removed.

Open minds produce beautiful lives. If you want your life to be more beautiful then, by all means, open your mind. Believe the impossible. Think positive. Be empowered by your thoughts and fulfill the destiny God has for you.

If you don’t believe God has a destiny for you, He does. He has promised a plan for everyone who follows Him and that plan, when accepted and acted on in complete faith, leads to your destiny.

Lives that are in motion, living out that plan, are following the truth that God has for them. And as John Keats says:

“Beauty is truth, truth beauty.”

Wouldn’t you agree, one of the things that attract people to others is that a person has things figured out and knows what they want? They live lives on-purpose. They are living out the plan. And a person who is living in that manner had to have an open mind in order to get there.

They removed the mental barriers of fear, doubt, and limiting beliefs. And by keeping their minds open and positive they have attracted into their lives the rewards the universe brings for their openness. They draw success by being open to it.

The types of thoughts we emit draw or repel the supply of the universe. Negative, closed-off thinking repels the good the universe would otherwise bring us. In reality, it actually does bring something—just more of the negative.

Yes, open minds are beautiful. God loves them, people love them, and even the universe loves them.

If things haven’t been going the way you’d like maybe it’s because you haven’t been so attractive. To God, to others, to the universe—if they try to give you something and you are not receptive to it, at some point the natural tendency is to stop trying. Refusal and unacceptance just aren’t that attractive.

Open your mind to see past the mental limits of this life. Open it to see the magic of life everywhere. Open it to follow your destiny. To do so is truly beautiful.

This is the final entry of a four-part series, “Open Things Are The Most Beautiful.”
